William Gray

The features of this home include a uniquely designed front porch with a metal roof, a beautiful open switchback stair with multiple window seats, transoms for additional light along with wonderful black and white accents. We provide comprehensive playground solutions that include planning, design and installation. This series is expressly designed for customers looking for “plug and play” solutions to augment existing play structures. Meyer Design is known for providing unsurpassed residential design services to Naperville and the surrounding Chicago suburbs.

Safe Surface

It does require some maintenance and periodic “topping off” to maintain the required depth needed for safety. The first commonly accepted method used to make structures accessible are to provide ramps, taking into account the degree of slope and the dimensions. The second method is to include transfer points, which are a series of platforms that allow a child to leave a wheelchair and access the play structure. Every child deserves the opportunity to play in safe and creative environments that foster the development of important life skills and social play. While our firm name is on every project, so is the name and reputation of every team member. We’re passionate about advancing the art and science of children’s play.

Serious about safety

This home has a gourmet kitchen with extensive working butler's pantry and attached hearth room. There is an Au pair suite with full private bath, which can also be used as an accessible in-law suite. There is a two story master closet with spiral stair, a full finished basement with billiards hall, custom English pub, wine cellar, instrument display and media room. There are six bedrooms, six and half baths, single car garage and separate two car garage.

Meyer Design

This is a clean, non-toxic loose fill surface material made from recycled tires. This is a fabulous option for playgrounds because it doesn’t rot and it doesn’t absorb water. Your playground will be dry and safe quickly with this soft, resilient and durable surfacing that comes in a variety of bright colors. Our poured in place surfacing is ideal for children, providings them with a clean, non-toxic, totally safe system which encourages creative, carefree play. Designing or upgrading existing play areas is made easier with this surface system because it accomodates any equipment height, drainage, installation plan or existing surface. Our safety surfacing is aesthetically pleasing, with a great range of color possibilities.

Our emphasis is on the design of custom homes with a specialty in affordable construction without sacrificing architectural detail. Our designs have been showcased in the Luxury Home Tour, Cavalcade of Homes, Gallery of Homes, Naperville Magazine, Glancer and Fox Valley Magazine with numerous awards including Best Home Design & Best Overall Home. The wood used in this surfacing contains no chemicals, paints or other additives.

Our first meeting is always complimentary at which time you will get to know us, our process and see some recent projects. Our fees are based on an initial meeting with you to review the project scope and your design preferences. We strive to design your home in a way to save you more during construction than our fees and expenses will typically add only  1% to 2% to hard construction costs of your new home. This is far less than you would invest in a realtor to help you find a home that was not designed specifically for you, your family and your lifestyle. We meet ASTMF-1487, the standard performance specifications for playground equipment for public use.

Interior design advice from just 25: how to get it and what it offers

You can choose patterns keeping with the theme of the room, be it floral, topographical, meteorological, astronomical, or anything you like. "Do something groovy on the actual steps! The bolder you go, the bigger the smile when you see them." — Fawn Galli. "I wanted to fashion a space where you could have a friend over for coffee or tea…and actually use your collected china," says Marie Flanigan of this tea room she designed. It's proof that any collection can be a jumping-off point for a room.

Accent lighting highlights architectural features, artwork, or focal points. When planning your lighting design, consider a combination of these types to achieve the desired effect. Additionally, pay attention to the colour temperature of the light bulbs, as warm or cool tones can greatly influence the perception of colours in the space. Modernize dated furniture

‘A mix of high-street and statement pieces can be particularly effective to get the most out of your budget – just make sure the investment item is truly a one-off,’ says Beata Heuman. ‘When creating a dining area within an open plan space, I always find it helpful to ensure that the furniture feels anchored. Banquette seating is a great way to maximize seating, as well as zoning a space,’ says Isabella Worsley. Vibrant paint and striking wallpaper are two great ways to make your walls stand out. But if going bold with all your walls sounds a little overwhelming, consider taking a risk on one wall and leaving the rest the way they are.

Resist the Urge to Push Your Furniture Against the Wall

Or check out your local paint shop, which will often have such a service. Stillorgan Décor, for example, in south Dublin, offers free 15-minute consultations with its interior designer, Emma Edmonds. Irish paint company Colourtrend offers a free 15-minute “ask the expert” service, which you can book online, and ask questions such as “which paint finish is best for a north-facing room? ” and “what colours are currently on-trend for a bedroom feature wall? For longer consultations, you can book a 30-minute session for €50 (€25 of which is redeemable), or €75 for an hour-long discussion.

‘A good architectural or interior designer will be able to look beyond the obvious and analyze what it is you like about those images.' With practice, you can do this, too. An upholstered banquette across two walls not only provides ample seating as part of dining room ideas but it also creates a sense of intimacy around the table. The strong red checkered design here mirrors the bold stripe of the back of the upholstered chairs. Have courage in your decorating choices and cover all your walls in the same wallpaper rather than restricting it to just one. Go even further and match your window dressing in a slightly smaller print.

Popular in homes the length and breadth of the country, a Californian-inspired scheme is an effortless way to bring a relaxing edge to a contemporary home. Balance is another principle—distributing the visual weight in a room. You can do it symmetrically, as is common in traditional interiors, or with asymmetrical balance as seen in casual interiors. You can hang them from the ceiling like room dividers or bunch them up around the window, or even install them around a tub or shower stall for a hint of elegance.

Choosing a paint color can be tough—in large part because the same color can look very different at different times of day, or when different lights are turned on. But Jennifer J. Morris, interior designer and principal at JMorris Design, has a clever trick that can help you feel more confident in your color choices. When selecting materials and finishes, consider factors such as durability, maintenance requirements, and aesthetics. Durability is essential, particularly in high-traffic areas or homes with pets and children. Assess the maintenance needs of different materials and choose ones that align with your lifestyle and upkeep preferences. Aesthetics are subjective but crucial in achieving the desired look and feel of a space.

Stick to a Simple Wood Stain

Take note of windows, their orientation, and how sunlight enters throughout the day. This knowledge will guide your choices for window treatments, colour schemes, and furniture placement. Observe how people move through the room and ensure that the furniture arrangement allows for smooth movement and functionality. To assess your space accurately, start by measuring your rooms and noting architectural features.

“Fill your home with things you truly love, and it will always be beautiful,” O'Gara says. The best rooms balance function with form, so consider what you want your space to feel like in addition to what you want it to look like. By giving that wall a quick makeover, you can make your space feel more complete—and more show-stopping. "Every room needs to include at least one member of the plant kingdom," Bell says. Of course, this doesn’t mean staying away from fun frames entirely.

“Display beautiful plates and glasses on open shelves for functionality and style,” Esther Dormer, interior designer at Dormer Design, says. Of course, you can extend this idea well beyond the kitchen—and into any other room with pretty stuff you need to store. Many of us think we need to choose either a bold print or a bold color, but you can actually pair the two.

Cover them up with peel-and-stick wallpaper, as designer Janie Molster did to the fridge and freezer in this kitchen. Meta Coleman was inspired by tile and color to give a California kitchen a refresh. She borrowed square footage from the living room to build this bright walk-in pantry. It's complete with plenty of storage, tons of countertop space, and adorable cabinet skirts that soften the room. “Moving into 2023, I anticipate we will continue to see a lot of earth tones, especially many shades of green,” says Amanda Barnes of Amanda Barnes Interiors.

The circumstances of Charles de Lisle’s childhood help explain his creative tendencies. Charles grew up in rural Massachusetts; he spent time exploring factories near his father’s woodworking shop where he collected scraps, bits of industrial products, images, and thoughts. After studying ceramics, Charles moved to California, where he learned how to weld and began fabricating lighting fixtures. Charles started his own office in 2008; a design collective focused on custom fabricated furniture, lighting, decorative arts, interior projects, and landscape projects. But what are the most timeless colors, and what's the best way to go about creating a color scheme that transcends the latest color trends?

Understanding the psychological effects of colour is essential when choosing appropriate hues for your interior design. Warm colours like red and orange can energise and create a cosy atmosphere, while cool colours like blue and green can promote relaxation and a sense of calm. It’s important to consider each room’s desired atmosphere and purpose when selecting colours, as they can greatly influence the overall ambience. Analyse the natural light sources in your space, as they can significantly influence the overall atmosphere and mood.

The client prepped with a targeted action list, and the designers recommended light fixtures, paint colors, and an area rug to accommodate ample floor playtime that’s part of the client’s lifestyle. Even if you feel confident in your design choices, wouldn't you consult an expert if given the chance? There's something about running paint swatches or tile options by an interior designer that makes you feel like you can do anything. Every design lover can benefit from having a pro in their corner, cheering them on.

70 Impressive Front Yard Landscaping Ideas

front landscape design

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need lush front yard landscaping to make a statement. Planning a dry garden or Mediterranean look can work just as well. Ideas for creating a tropical garden that evokes the beauty and serenity of far-off destinations.

Create a Bright Driveway Garden

'To maximize usefulness and impact, the size of your entry walk matters. If you go too small, it’s more of a path while too wide means it may compete with your driveway,' says Cassi Hallam, expert at System Pavers. Peg Aloi is a gardening expert and former garden designer with 13 years experience working as a professional gardener in the Boston and upstate New York areas.

Front yard landscaping ideas

Therefore, it's vital to add characterful features to your front yard landscaping ideas. If your home lacks a backyard or if your front yard is a sun-trap, you might want to consider building a patio in your front yard. Front yard landscaping ideas define the exterior of your home. After all, your front yard is the most seen part of the house, it greets your visitors before you've even reached the door and will set the tone for the house beyond. With such an important function, it is vital that your front yard landscaping ideas are perfect.

Frame With Shrubs and Containers

“For your front yard, the focal point is the front door, so be sure you don’t hide it,” advises certified landscape designer and Womanswork.com president, Dorian Winslow. If you are considering major plantings such as trees, think about how they will frame the front door as you approach your house. The concrete paver walkway is set in a layout that pleasingly mirrors the shape of the stake lights alongside. Ground-cover plants add a naturalistic touch, as do the large boulders. If you have the space, a front yard tree or two can also be incorporated for color and structure. In the past, plants were set where the house meets the ground to hide foundations and first-floor basements.

Robotic Lawn Mowers

Plant it with climbing roses, Carolina jasmine, clematis or other vining plants. Consider attaching the arbor to a picket fence to make your front yard feel like a welcoming garden enclosure. You could also add trellises, pergolas and hardscape features like retaining walls or pathways to add visual interest to your landscape.

of the Most Dangerous Plants in America

“A buffer that includes multiple plants at varying heights can accomplish the same thing as a solid hedge or a fence but is far more welcoming,” says Winslow. Alternatively, if you are just trying to block the view from a particular room—or a part of your yard from your neighbors—plant a couple of trees or shrubs with strategic precision. “Avoid treating foundation plants as if they were little soldiers pressed up along the perimeter of your house,” advises Winslow. “For a two-story house, foundation plantings should extend at least 8 feet out from the house.” When you’re planting shrubs, think about how they will look in 3 to 5 years. “You don’t want to select varieties that will block your windows,” she adds. Speaking of size, it's also better to go for larger planters if you're planning a contemporary container garden.

Get Creative in Narrow Spaces

You can then supplement these evergreens with seasonal blooms to introduce points of additional interest. Select some of the best spring bulbs and best summer bulbs for a low-effort way to add color to your front yard landscaping ideas. The wild array of flowers and stone walkway are reminiscent of a charming, modern-day fairytale. However, the greens on the roof offer a touch of drama, making this front yard look great from all angles.

Consider DIY projects, sourcing materials from local classifieds or community swaps, and opting for low-cost but high-impact features like a new gravel path or a well-placed bench. Sloped yards offer a unique canvas to create stunning landscaping features that also help with erosion control and water runoff. Grass is not the only material you can use in the front of your home.

Define the Space

Full sun will lend itself to growing warm-season annuals or vegetables, while shade will help keep a seating area cooler in summer. If you lack garden space in front of your home, you can still make the space welcoming and pretty. Potted plants and flowers under the windows and on the steps add greenery to what otherwise would be a bare entrance. This will add some much-needed liveliness and a pop of color. We've gathered a lot of front yard landscaping ideas here, suitable for a variety of experience levels, beginner to expert. Install a small water feature, such as a fish pond or a glazed pot with a circulating pump, and let the overflow splash into a bed of attractive rocks.

These ideas will get you inspired for a front yard refresh, whatever sized space you have to work with. It's the perfect way to set a fresh new tone for your home. And, when executed well, a contemporary front yard will stay looking chic for years to come. There are plenty of ways to achieve the aesthetic – and elevate the wow-factor of your plot. Every house facade and site has visual assets and liabilities.

front landscape design

Today, these so-called foundation plantings are often inappropriate and widely misused. Builders put in plants with enough size but little character, and they can soon outgrow their usefulness. Many houses come with a surrounding cloud or a border of stiffly spotted evergreens that destroy a house's style. Trees (and larger shrubs) are the first components to consider when planning how to landscape front yards.

Add some comfortable chairs and a table so you can enjoy sitting outside. A covered porch is also a great way to enjoy the space in inclement weather without getting wet. When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a classic front yard landscaping strategy.

What's most important to you when buying a new PC?

The best gaming PCs are expensive, but if you’re looking for an affordable gaming tower, the MSI Aegis ZS is perfect. Not only does it come with a powerful RTX 4060, but it’s also paired with a 1TB SSD, which is one hell of a deal at $1,249. MSI does offset the cost a bit with some bloatware, but you can easily get rid of all of that in less than an hour by digging around in the settings. With this beefy graphics card and high-end processor, this PC stomps most AAA games, especially if you’re comfortable playing on one of the best 1440p monitors. The good news is, other than an odd PSU connection, Dell is using standard-sized components here too, so you can upgrade this PC for years to come without worrying about compatibility.

You can share on the desktop version and the app version (iOS only). Have you ever had a project or design with like five different shades of pink and they all want to cut out on different pieces of paper or vinyl? You can get all these colors to match one another by using the Color Sync feature in Cricut Design Space. In the desktop version, just click “Color Sync” at the top of the panel on the right side to see all colors being used by a project and manage them.

Depending on how far you are from the kitchen, it may be inconvenient to go back and forth from the home office. However, this Hamilton Beach Wine Cooler Fridge is compact enough to store in your office, and it can hold 43 bottles of wine – but can also be used to store bottled water, soft drinks, energy drinks, and fruit. The stylish appliance is 5 cubic feet, and has wooden shelves and interior lights, in addition to the touch control temperature display.

But this entails more than just a cool design and stylish items to make your home office look good. The widespread work from home movement was born of necessity during COVID-19. If you’re looking for a smaller option, the Burrow Copilot Standing Desk is 27 inches in length and 43 inches in width, and has a height range of 28.5 to 48 inches. The desk drawer is large enough to hold a 17-inche laptop, keyboard, and mouse, and the desk also has a cord organization compartment on top, as well as a 6-inch monitor mount opening on the back. The solid beech desk, which has a weight capacity of 300 pounds, is available in walnut and oak.

A sliding scale requires honest and thoughtful consideration of the complexities of income, wealth, class, race, and other forms of inequity that affect an individual’s ability to pay. We do not require income verification for our sliding scale. We trust that participants will choose a sliding scale amount that reflects what they are able to pay, and also reflects their desire to support others in joining our community. If a course has a prerequisit, it will be clearly outlined in the course description.

For our short form (2 day-2 week) courses, we typically open registration at least 6 months in advance and space is available on a first come, first served bases. We recommend registering at least 2-3 months in advance; although we will continue to accept registrations on a space-available basis until a class reaches its capacity. When there is space available, we can accept registrations up until the day before the class begins.

If the class you hope to take is full, you can add your name to the waitlist and we will notify you when a space is available. There is no fee to add your name to the waitlist and there is no obligation to attend if you are accepted. We cannot predict if a space will become available and may not be able to respond to inquiries about your place in line (in the summer months, we get a lot and it's hard to keep up!). If a space becomes available in a course within a week of the start, we may email the entire waitlist and offer the seat on a first come, first served basis. We welcome your inquiries and are available to answer any questions about our programs and workshops. You may register for courses online by clicking the register button on each course page.

7 Elements of Design: Everything You Should Know

space as an element of design

The 3D objects include pyramids, cubes, and other abstract forms. You can make a 3D effect by using shadows, color, and overlaid objects. In its “Let’s Eat Together” campaign, Coca-Cola also works with negative space and trapped white space to create the illusion of a bottle in between a knife and fork. Trapped white space is negative space that is surrounded or enclosed by other elements and can make a design feel cluttered or difficult to read. Through the repetition of elements such as color, shape, or texture, you can create a sense of unity and reinforce the message of your design. The positive shapes here are the solid black areas, while the negative space between them forms the image of a face.

What are the 7 Elements of Design?

Before you learn UX design and dive into its principles and best practices, it’s vital to know your toolkit and understand how each element may affect your design and overall user experience. Form refers to the three-dimensional aspect of an object, providing it with depth, volume, and mass. In a two-dimensional design, form is represented through shading, shadows, and highlights, giving the illusion of a solid object. Understanding form is vital for creating realistic and visually appealing designs, as it allows for the depiction of lifelike objects and characters with depth and dimension. Lines are the fundamental building blocks of design, serving as pathways that guide the viewer's eye and create a sense of movement. Straight lines often symbolize stability and order, while curved lines evoke a sense of grace and flow.

The essence of space in design

The Kung Fu Panda movie poster employs several of the techniques outlined above to create the illusion of a 3D image in which the cast of characters appears to be moving toward you. Use these examples to inspire your own designs as you get to grips with working with space. Although it can be used as an element in the design (see our examples below), in most cases, it’s something you’ll want to avoid. Its use of repetition makes its designs memorable and contributes to the brand image.

Design Unity: Creating Cohesive Visual Harmony

You’ll also learn about the types of grid systems and how to effectively use grids to improve your work. In paint, colours mix subtractively because the pigments in paints absorb light. When different pigments are mixed together, the mixture absorbs a wider range of light, resulting in a darker colour. A subtractive mix of cyan, magenta and yellow will result in a black colour. A subtractive mix of colours in paint and print produces the CMYK (i.e., Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK) colour system. The words “Interaction Design Foundation” form an implied semicircular line in our logo.

The Pareto Principle and Your User Experience Work

space as an element of design

Lines help direct users' attention toward specific information or focal points. In this article, we will explore 7 basic design elements and discover the primary goals behind their use. One of the most iconic examples of clever space utilization in logos is the FedEx logo. This logo ingeniously incorporates negative space between the lowercase “E” and “x,” forming a hidden arrow. This arrow symbolizes speed and precision in the company’s services.

Real Space

It can be both tactile, something you can physically touch, or visual, an illusion created through artistic techniques. Incorporating texture into a design adds richness and complexity, making it more visually engaging and inviting. Designers can use texture to evoke specific feelings or themes, such as using a rough texture for a rustic, earthy vibe or a smooth texture for a modern, sleek look. Of course, we can’t actually feel the texture of a digital design, however, just by looking at it we can experience the feeling.

Repetition: repeating elements or design motifs to create cohesiveness

Discover more about the importance of accent colors and how to use them in our guide. The vast majority of interiors make use of both natural daylight and artificial illumination. While the quantity and quality of daylight might seem fixed, it’s worth remembering that it can be filtered with drapery and window coverings. Dynamic lines like diagonals, zigzags and curves could come from a feature such as a staircase, but also can be created with tiling laid diagonally. Allows for content and ad personalization across Google services based on user behavior. You can also learn with your fellow course-takers and use the discussion forums to get feedback and inspire other people who are learning alongside you. You and your fellow course-takers have a huge knowledge and experience base between you, so we think you should take advantage of it whenever possible. Throughout the course, we’ll supply you with lots of templates and step-by-step guides so you can go right out and use what you learn in your everyday practice. In the final lesson, you’ll learn about grid systems and their importance in providing structure within design.

The darkness of the trees and shadows on the tractor emphasize a dark and mysterious atmosphere. For instance, if the flowers were faded and turning brown and the robot was dull and rusted. But instead, the bright colors help paint a scene that is innocent and welcoming.

Not only can you make an element stand out this way—you can also use scale to create a sense of depth (since nearer objects appear larger to the human eye). Exaggerated scales of images also add a certain level of interest and drama to them. Balance can be achieved by having symmetry in the design (for instance, having a webpage with centralised text and images).

Although simple, lines can possess a large variety of properties that allow us to convey a range of expressions. Focus on emotion – the pleasure of use is as vital as ease of use; arouse users’ passion for increasing engagement. Use defaults wisely – when you offer predetermined, well-considered options, you help minimize users’ decisions and increase efficiency. Show users where they’ve come from and where they’re headed with signposts/cues. Offer few options – don’t hinder users with nice-to-haves; give them needed alternatives instead. Don’t interrupt or give users obstacles – make apparent pathways that offer an easy ride.

Space, also known as negative space, is the area surrounding and between the elements in a design. Just as important as the objects themselves, negative space influences the overall composition's balance and readability. Properly managing negative space can enhance the visual impact of a design, making it feel more open, airy, and harmonious. It can also help guide the viewer's attention and provide a sense of breathing room amidst various elements. Shapes are two-dimensional figures that can be either geometric or organic.

A lack of unity in designs can create a sense of unease and chaos. A design with a high contrast of values (i.e., one which makes use of light and dark values) creates a sense of clarity, while a design with similar values creates a sense of subtlety. We can also use value to simulate volume in 2D, for instance, by using lighter values where the light hits the object and darker values for shadows. We can form shapes using lines (as above), or by using differences in colour, texture or value. Have an easy-to-scan visual hierarchy that reflects users’ needs, with commonly used items handily available. Design principles represent the accumulated wisdom of researchers and practitioners in design and related fields.

39 Dip Powder Nail Ideas That Will Make You Want to Book a Mani ASAP

A coastal ocean-blue shade makes for a bold statement on its own or as an accent color. For a gel option reach for the Madam Glam gel nail polish in Matty. Maximalist nail art has its place, but a neutral manicure is a timeless staple.

Floral Accent Nails

The result is equal parts retro and Barbiecore for the ultimate bright mani. We love the precision and attention to detail on this negative space swirl manicure. Pairing complementary shades of neons in a swirl pattern on a sheer pink base creates a groovy aesthetic that feels right at home during spring and summer. Try wearing this mani with loads of chunky gold jewelry for a timeless modern statement. For a sweet-looking manicure that's a bit reminiscent of Shrinky Dinks, opt for a matte neutral base topped with tiny outlined hearts in a primary color scheme.

Sheer Jelly Colors

Matte-finish nails create a soft, diffused look that compliments deep and dark colors especially well. If you’re into marbling but think that accent color should have more to say, consider using a strong gold current as a design. Abstract and artful gold designs create an endlessly expensive effect that upgrades any look.

#7: Maroon Nails with White Brush Strokes

Who wouldn't want to buy nail stickers from people who create gorgeous nails for a living? "Art on a negative space look less grown-out than a full-coverage manicure," Falcone said, highlighting just how great minimal designs will look for 2021. Manicurist Queenie Nguyen's favorite nail design for spring is a micro French manicure. While she typically reaches for a pale pink base paired with the classic white tip, we love the idea of using a pastel nail color like the one above. As the trees shift from baby pink blooms to leafy green trees, you’ll want to reflect that in your manicure as well, welcoming bright summer shades in place of spring pastels. Dive into manicures featuring fiery reds, gorgeous shimmers, and tranquil teals.

To achieve this design, paint tiny hearts onto each nail before layering a smaller decal on top to create the outlined shape. Keep your nails on the short side to keep the focus on the intricate art. That said, you don’t have to travel the globe to get this look. We love JinSoon’s Whisper, a soft jelly rose shade for a subtle manicure, and Olive & June’s Jelly Baby for a slightly brighter jelly finish.

Sky Blue

Maybe it's just us, but these metallic, almond-shaped nails remind us of all things Sailor Moon. You don't have to wear these rainbow acrylics during Pride month to show off your spirit. The hue is on the border of blue and purple, and we guarantee it'll look good no matter the season.

This chic placement of glitter polish couldn't be easier to accomplish. We love the gold paired with an unconventional pale blue. To replicate the look, apply a clear polish at the bottom curve of each nail and sprinkle nail glitter or gold foil over top, so it only sticks to one area of the nail.

Tonal textures add so much depth to even the most neutral designs. Combine two ever-popular spring looks with slanted French tips and a retro flower design. You can request this look at the salon or re-create it at home using this convenient step-by-step tutorial. How adorable is this daisy-inspired manicure by Rachel Messick?

Creative Nail Designs to Try In 2024

For the ultimate French mani inspo ahead of your nail appointments, you’re going to want to save this story. Since then, white French tips have woven in and out of popularity. They were briefly dubbed “cheugy” in the 2010s, but with a new decade came renewed interest. Today, Frenchies are firmly back in the beauty zeitgeist — in fact, they’re leading it. The '90s are so totally back, in case you haven't noticed.

We're so used to seeing shades of black, white, and silver in futuristic manicures. Adding a vibrant shade to the otherworldly nail look makes it feel fresh and bright. What trends should you say no to, and what designs will carry throughout the year? With so many nail salons still closed, how do you maintain said nail designs? With the coronavirus pandemic still around and consistent mask wearing being a thing, it's been tough to show off your personal style this year. Outfits can really only go so far, so cue eye makeup and daring nail looks.

The secret for a seamless color progression is applying two to three similar shades in sections, then using a brush to blend it. Allure editors love Sundays No.1, a pure white polish that takes inspiration from fresh linens, and OPI Funny Bunny. A few coats of Aprés’ gel nail polish in Baby’s Breath will carry you through. White linen sets, white sand beaches, a classic white pedicure…the fresh hue is practically synonymous with summertime. “It’s a versatile color that makes your skin appear tan and instantly brightens your overall look,” says Lin.

Who knew pumpkin orange and baby blue could look so good together? The rounded lines extend to the cuticle, leaving about one-fourth of the nail border open. We're glad that she experimented with the look, because it's inspired a bunch of mid-century looks. So don't be afraid to do some color blocking, to add some minimal stripe detailing, and to switch up your go-to color of light pink or nude with a fun purple or green. She told Refinery29 that the "irregular French" and the crescent style applied elsewhere on the nail (rather than just the tip) is the way to switch things up. She suggested using a fine, long-haired brush to create the look and then to seal it all up with a top coat.

And yet, subtle nail art inspo can seem difficult to find amidst the slew of bold and beautiful designs out there. Yes, they're spectacularly loud and eye-catching but sometimes we're just craving something soft and delicate. So, we took it upon ourselves to find the most stunning neutral nail designs for the manicure minimalists amongst us—and no, they’re not just solid nude polish swatches. Keep reading for 35 natural nail art designs we love, fresh off of Instagram. We all have tried to create bold and intricate nail designs on our own, but as soon as you go from your dominant to non-dominant hand, all hell breaks loose. Nail polish goes everywhere, and remover and Q-tips have to be at the ready.

Bring the drama to your nails with a glittering gold look that’s perfect for both the sun-kissed days of summer and Christmas parties, come winter. Next time you’re in the mood for a green-colored polish, try choosing five different shades for a mani that’s all your own. Micro French nails are Kendall Jenner’s current signature mani, making these cherry mocha-colored mini tips supermodel-approved.

After all, you could be faced with a wall filled with not only hundreds of hues but lots of finish options, like rich cremes, high-shine glitters, and statement mattes. We love a good nail sticker because they are a cinch to put on any jazz up any style. Have it start at the top of the nail instead of the bottom, and don't draw it out all the way.
